How much does a website or online store cost in Basel?

Life sciences and SMEs: the Basel economy
In 2024, Basel-Stadt counted around 200,000 employees in over 16,000 companies, more than 99% of them SMEs. The life sciences account for around 10% of jobs (Switzerland: around 2%) and around 40% of value added (Canton of Basel-Stadt, economic structure).
If you supply labs, research or production, the people visiting your website are often specialists looking for data sheets and contact people. For Exvil, a Lithuanian medical technology supplier, we made the website easier to use and more modern.
A border region: customers from three countries
Basel-Stadt shares around 22 kilometers of border with Germany and around 5 with France (Basel-Stadt surveying office). In 2025, an average of 36,000 workers commuted in from abroad, roughly half from each country, plus 54,500 from other cantons (Basel-Stadt labor market).
For customers in Alsace, French usually pays off. Visitors from Germany look for prices in euros, delivery across the border and the country calling code. We plan for this at the wireframe stage.
Data protection: the nFADP and visitors from the EU
The revised Federal Act on Data Protection (nFADP) has applied since 1 September 2023. Article 7 requires data protection by design and by default, starting at the planning stage (FADP, Art. 7, FDPIC).
Only ask for what you need in forms, and only track what you actually analyze. If you target customers in Germany or France, check with your legal advisor whether the GDPR applies as well. This is not legal advice.

How much does a website cost for a Basel company?

Does Rekos offer package prices?
No. We price every website individually, because scope, features and style vary widely. The only fixed figure is the starting price of CHF 1,000. For the quote, we need your goal, a rough sitemap or a list of topics and an idea of the style you want.
How long does a project with an online store take?
A store can take longer than the 4 to 6 weeks a complete website needs. With many products or several language versions, the product data and translations have to be prepared first. You save time by approving drafts quickly and delivering product data early.
Does Rekos build online stores too?
Yes, e-commerce websites make up a significant share of our projects. We design product pages, filters and checkout so visitors quickly find what they are looking for. For the CBD brand Day2Day, we created the logo, packaging and online store in a single project.
Is a French version worth it for customers in Alsace?
Usually, yes. French is spoken in Alsace, and according to the canton of Basel-Stadt, around half of cross-border commuters live in France. We build the languages into the wireframes, and we settle who translates on the first call.
